How to Became Effective Part 3
Act Or Be Acted Upon
Just before the 2008 recession, a few friends started a business. Then the recession came, and their business stopped. Day by day, their business shrank, and they had no idea what was going to happen next.
In the first month of the recession, they sat together and discussed what was going to happen. The market was very bad, trends were not good, and the next few months were likely to be worse than the current situation. By the end of the meeting, they were depressed.
On the second day, they met again to discuss the business conditions and study the environmental trends. The outcome was that this situation would shape their future, and by the end of the day, they were even more depressed.
On the third day, they sat together and discussed the situation proactively. In these critical conditions, they decided on their response: they discussed managing and reducing costs, focusing on very practical and doable things.
By the end, they felt a new excitement, hope, and proactive awareness.
However, some reactive minds said, 'You people are harboring false hope in this critical time, and you are following a self-delusional approach. You guys don't face reality.'
It depends on how you face the problem. Everyone has their own way, and the result depends on that approach. During the 2008 recession, everyone was withdrawing their money from the stock market as it crashed. However, some people read the market, found shares that were not overpriced, and kept investing in those shares. In the end, they made a lot of profit.
Businesses, community groups, and organizations of every kind, including families, can be proactive.
